Destitution or Declaration – we decide…

When America speaks, the world listens. This may very well be unfortunate, but it’s true. Unfortunate only because much of what we are speaking has little to do with what Jesus asks out anthems to be.

We have been given a position of privilege, many of us anyway, with our “Western allowances,” and I believe that we must be challenged to either confront our culture, abandon it or transform it.

I’ve heard this statement a lot recently and I believe it wholeheartedly to be true:
Washington D.C. is the seat of power but Hollywood is the seat of influence.
And this influence has a global governing...

According to recent estimates, there are:

120 million street children
15 million AIDS orphans
10 million child prostitutes
2 million deaths/year from treatable diseases
500,000 child soldiers
27 million people enslaved around the world

These staggering statistics should compel us all, challenging our “allowances” – being awakened by the Spirit of God to look boldly and unabashedly at the deteriorating “face” of our North American culture and accept with joy, the opportunity to TRANSFORM IT!!!

From the Invisible Children Organization:

We speak to be heard by our government.
We speak to be heard by the world.
We speak in one voice, unified, and numerous.
We speak for those who have no voice.
We speak to save lives.

Martin Luther king Jr. was quoted as saying that,“…we are called to play the Good Samaritan on life’s roadside . . . but one day we must come to see that the whole Jericho road must be transformed so that men and women will not be constantly beaten and robbed. True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar. It comes to see that a system that produces beggars needs to be repaved. We are called to be the Good Samaritan, but after you lift so many people out of the ditch you start to ask, maybe the whole road to Jericho needs to be repaved.”

As many of you know, I work for a terrific company, Every Tribe Entertainment http://www.everytribe.com/. We are embarking on a very exciting project, and not unlike the story we are telling (a screenplay adaptation of Ted Dekker's thriller “Blink”), the journey of telling this tale will undoubtedly be one of adventure and amply dosed with the elements of thrill and possible danger.

We are scripting a screenplay right now – and this story is totally pertinent to the headlines of today. Check out the film description on our site: www.everytribe.com/BlinkDetail.

I don’t want to launch into much here in this quasi-public forum, but I will invite you to this… please pray with us. Please ask our Faithful God to miraculously equip this small part of His global body to serve – to be a vocally (moreover cinematically) active presence in this world – desperate and hungry for truth, mercy, compassion and the kindness that God offers us all - freely, without limitations or borders… May we all speak to engage and save such a life.

"Every experience God gives us, every person He puts in our path, is the perfect preparation for a future only He can see." Corrie ten Boom
